During a recent stand-up performance, British comedian Jimmy Carr found himself facing an unexpected challenge from the audience when a heckler decided to share some strong opinions about one of his celebrity friendships.
The exchange began innocuously enough when an audience member asked Carr about podcast host Joe Rogan. The comedian responded warmly, describing Rogan as “an old mate of mine” and praising his abilities as a stand-up comic.
“I like him as a standup comic. I think he’s a great guy. You all know Joe Rogan, right? He’s got a podcast. He’s a great guy. Yeah, he’sfun. It’s not much of a story,” Carr told the crowd, adding that anyone interested in hearing them chat together could find their conversations available online.
However, another audience member named Mark had a different perspective to share. When Mark voiced his negative opinion of Rogan, calling him a ‘f**kwit’, Carr engaged with the heckler rather than shutting him down immediately.
Mark’s criticism centered on a rather unusual complaint: that Rogan frequently asks his podcast producer Jamie to search for information during episodes. “He always asks that little gimp of his, Jamie, to Google” things, Mark explained, suggesting this demonstrated a lack of understanding.
Carr, maintaining his quick wit, questioned the logic behind this criticism. “So you think having someone to Google something for him makes him a f**kwit?” the comedian asked, clearly finding the reasoning peculiar.
The veteran comic then defused the situation with his humor, asking the heckler’s name and responding with a joke: “Mark? Like a stain? Oh, this has got a mark on it. It’s ruined.”
Before moving on, Carr delivered a final quip: “I hope he doesn’t turn out to be a f**kwit.” He drew the exchange to a close, earning laughs from the rest of the audience.
