Gary Vee: The World Is Messed Up Because Both Sides of Political Parties and Big Corporations Are Running on Fear

In a conversation on The Pivot Podcast, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk talked about what he sees as the fundamental problem plaguing American society. During the episode, he discussed the systematic weaponization of fear by leaders across all sectors.

“The world’s all messed up because fear is on offense,” Vaynerchuk stated bluntly. “Both sides of the political aisle, all the bosses, all the corporations, everyone’s weaponizing fear.”

His critique didn’t spare anyone. According to Vaynerchuk, the tactics are identical regardless of political affiliation or position of power.

“They’re all doing the same exact thing,” he explained. “I’m gonna scare you on immigration. I’m gonna scare you on socialism. I’m gonna scare you on Trump. Like they’re just all the same stuff. Fear, fear, fear, fear, fear.”

When discussing new technologies like artificial intelligence, Vaynerchuk noted how fear becomes the default response to change. “When you start with fear, it’s a wrap,” he said, emphasizing that this mentality prevents people from seeing opportunities.

The entrepreneur drew parallels between political fear-mongering and corporate behavior, suggesting that manipulation through anxiety has become standard operating procedure across institutions. Rather than inspiring hope or presenting solutions, leaders default to triggering the fear response in their audiences.

Vaynerchuk referenced the introduction of electricity as an example, noting that people were terrified of it initially, with some believing there were demons in electrical systems. Yet humanity ultimately harnessed electricity for tremendous good.

“Humans have shown we do the right things in the net,” he said. “In the macro, we’re the best. In the micro, we pay attention to the 0.1% of the worst.”

This fear-based approach, according to Vaynerchuk, keeps people stuck in defensive positions rather than moving forward with possibility and optimism.
