In a move that quickly drew widespread criticism, House Democrats released a social media video styled after video game character selection screens, featuring prominent party members in an apparent attempt to energize voters against former President Trump.
The 20-minute video, initially shared by influencer Sulhee Jessica Woo to her 5.6 million TikTok followers, showcases Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jasmine Crockett, Susie Lee, Judy Chu, Lauren Underwood, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, and Woo herself. The video was released to mark Women’s History Month, coming just one day after Trump’s Congress address.

The White House responded swiftly with their own version, sharing a video montage on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Trump administration figures. Their post, captioned “America chose its fighters last November,” included appearances by President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and border official Tom Homan.
Other featured administration members included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
The Trump administration’s Rapid Response 47 account added to the criticism, posting “Democrats Not Be Cringe Challenge. Level: Impossible.”
Social media reactions were largely negative, with users expressing disbelief and disappointment. “Any other options to choose,” wrote one user, while another commented, “This makes me feel sick.” A third user simply stated, “This can’t be real!”
Journalist Peter Hamby noted, “One of the worst parts about this: the Choose Your Fighter trend was popular on TikTok like 3 years ago.”
Punchbowl News reporter Ben Brody observed, “This is hilariously cringey, but also I’m a cynical b****rd who’s going to roll his eyes at whatever Dems ultimately find as a way to connect with voters. If they ever can…”
