TikTok creator Michaela Noyra recently found herself at the center of controversy after posting a divorce announcement that many viewers felt demonstrated an alarming disconnect from reality.
The video opened with Noyra telling her audience “I appreciate you and I love you and you’re going to want to sit down for this video” quickly drew criticism for its self-important tone and dramatic framing of a private matter.
The influencer, perhaps best known for her “Kim Kardashian” impression video, sat down to announce her split from husband Cody in a carefully lit, professionally staged video that struck many as unnecessarily theatrical.
“I am getting a divorce. Take a minute. Take it in,” she told viewers, as though delivering devastating news to close family members rather than casual social media followers.
What made the announcement particularly controversial was Noyra’s apparent belief that her audience was deeply invested in her personal life. Commentary on the video noted that many of her followers weren’t even aware she had been married, making her delivery seem out of touch.
The influencer described her relationship as filled with “some of the best memories of my life” and emphasized that the split was “very amicable,” with the couple still talking daily and sharing dinners together.
However, observers pointed out the contradictory nature of her message. While Noyra insisted she wouldn’t share details about the divorce and repeatedly asked viewers not to speculate, she spent significant time explaining what the divorce wasn’t about, including addressing her husband’s past struggles with su**tance use.
Industry insiders have revealed that influencer management companies actively encourage creators to make audiences feel like personal friends, as this emotional connection drives engagement and sales. But in this case, the strategy appeared to backfire spectacularly.
Perhaps most telling was Noyra’s description of the divorce as both “terrifying” and “exciting,” followed shortly by Valentine’s Day content expressing enthusiasm about being single.
Since the backlash began, Noyra has disabled comments on subsequent videos and hasn’t addressed the criticism.
