Joe Rogan has shared a humorous and revealing anecdote about President Donald Trump, describing him as a “79-year-old kid” following an unexpected phone call that interrupted his day.
The podcaster recounted the moment during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.
The incident occurred when Rogan was shooting arrows in his backyard and received a random call from Trump, who was spending time with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. According to Huang, the two were discussing him when Trump impulsively decided to call.
Rogan stated: ” I was shooting arrows in my backyard and randomly get this call from Trump and he’s hanging out with you.”
Huang stated that he was talking about Rogan with Trump, which is why the President decided to suddenly call Rogan. Huang said, “President Trump called and I called you. Yeah. It’s just we were talking about you.”
Rogan as amused hearing that. “He’s like a kid,” Rogan said, laughing at the memory. “He’s like a 79-year-old kid.”
Jensen Huang said that during his conversation with the President, Trump excitedly showed Huang a design for a UFC event he was planning to host on the front lawn of the White House. Huang recalled Trump’s enthusiasm as he shared his vision, describing how proud the president was of his concept.
“He pulls out, he’s like, ‘Jensen, Look at this design.’ He’s so proud of it,” he explained. “And I go, ‘You’re going to have a fight in the front lawn in the White House?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, yeah, you’re going to come. This is going to be awesome.'”
Huang said that when Rogan’s name came up in conversation, Trump’s immediate response was characteristic of his impulsive nature. “He goes, ‘Do you know Joe?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to be on his podcast.’ He goes, ‘Let’s call him,'” Rogan recounted, still seemingly amused by the spontaneity of it all.
Rogan acknowledged that Trump is “an odd guy” and noted that the reality of who he is differs significantly from public perception. “Very different than what people think of him,” he said. “And also just very different as a president. A guy who just calls you or texts you out of the blue.” He also mentioned Trump’s habit of sending enlarged text messages with phrases like “USA is respected again” in all caps, adding to the former president’s unconventional communication style.
Despite his observations about Trump’s quirks, Rogan expressed respect for certain aspects of his personality. He noted that while Trump can be unpredictable and has made statements Rogan wouldn’t personally endorse, there’s an authenticity to him. “Part of his genius is he says what’s on his mind,” Rogan remarked, contrasting Trump with typical politicians who carefully curate their public statements.
The podcaster also reflected on a broader issue facing American political discourse: the inability of many to recognize good ideas simply because they come from someone they disagree with. “It’s just unfortunate we live in such a politically polarized society that you can’t recognize good common sense things if they’re coming from a person that you object to,” Rogan said.
