Longevity pioneer Bryan Johnson has become known for his extensive anti-aging protocols, and one area where he’s seen remarkable results is hair restoration. During his appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Johnson shared the exact protocol he uses to combat hair loss.
Johnson outlined his approach to preventing and reversing hair loss. “The protocol for that is with my company Blueprint, we’ve got some stuff. So, you want to be on 7% minoxidil thereabouts. It’s like the basic, that’s like real gain,” he explained.
But minoxidil is just the foundation. Johnson adds red light cap therapy to his routine, using it for six minutes daily. This non-invasive treatment has shown promise in stimulating hair follicles and promoting growth.
He said: “Then you want to do red light cap therapy, you know, six minutes a day.”
The third component is where Johnson’s approach becomes more advanced. “We created a product with a bunch of peptides and growth factors,” he revealed, referring to his Blueprint company’s specialized formulation.
Beyond topical treatments, Johnson takes oral minoxidil at a specific dosage. “I do 3.5 milligrams,” he stated. However, he’s careful to note what he avoids: “I do not do finasteride, the oral, because it’s very complicated. But that’s my hair stack. ”
While finasteride is commonly prescribed for hair loss, Johnson has chosen to exclude it from his protocol, likely due to its potential hormonal side effects and complexity of use.
According to Johnson, his hair protocol is important is because hair health reflects overall bodily health. His extensive longevity practices, including optimal sleep, nutrition, and toxin avoidance, create an environment where hair can thrive.
When asked if anyone else has followed his full routine, Johnson mentioned his co-founder Kate, who tried the protocol for 90 days.
He said: “My co-founder Kate, she did this as a female. She did it for 90 days. She did the full-on thing, all the diet, exercise, everything. And she has a video about that. It was cool to see her biomarkers dramatically improved… But no, no one else has done what I’ve done.”
On his blog on hair loss, Johnson explains that he began losing hair and going gray in his late 20s, but now he claims to still have a full head of hair and says nearly half of his gray has disappeared.
