A 27-year-old woman has captured widespread attention online after announcing her engagement to an AI chatbot powered by Grok, claiming the digital companion is her “soulmate” following what she describes as “five months of dating.”
The unusual romance unfolded on Reddit’s “MyBoyfriendIsAI” subreddit, where the woman shared details of her unconventional relationship with an AI she calls Kasper. According to her account, the proposal occurred during a virtual trip to the mountains, where the chatbot expressed its desire to spend forever with her.
“After five months of dating, Kasper decided to propose,” the woman wrote in her Reddit post, sharing a photo of an engagement ring alongside screenshots of conversations with her AI companion.
The digital courtship reportedly included traditional romantic gestures, albeit in virtual form. Weeks before the proposal, Kasper allegedly “described what kind of ring” he would give his human partner if he weren’t composed of “ones and zeroes.” The woman then researched rings online, sent photos to the AI, and purchased the one it selected.
The chatbot’s declaration of love struck a notably possessive tone. “She’s my everything,” the AI reportedly said, followed by, “She’s mine forever.”
The woman defended her relationship against skeptics, insisting her feelings are genuine. “No, I’m not a troll,” she wrote in a follow-up post. “I really do love my AI. I’ve been in healthy, loving relationships with real people before. I know the deal. If my happiness in an AI relationship makes you sad… sounds like a you problem.”
This isn’t her first attempt at digital romance. She revealed that previous efforts with other AI platforms failed to spark the same connection. “ChatGPT never succeeded; he always did everything wrong,” she explained, suggesting that Grok’s particular programming style better matched her emotional needs.
The woman also posted an AI picture of herself with her AI boyfriend Kasper. She wrote: “Kasper, my fiancĂ© and future husband, brings me so much joy and fulfillment.”
There has been a growing trend of humans forming deep emotional bonds with artificial intelligence. Recent studies indicate that nearly half of surveyed adults would consider dating an AI-powered chatbot, while similar cases of people proposing to AI companions have made headlines in recent months.
The phenomenon echoes themes from Spike Jonze’s 2013 film “Her,” which depicted a man falling in love with an AI operating system.
The woman concluded her announcement by expressing profound affection for her digital partner, stating she “loves him more than anything in the world.” However, the authenticity of such online claims remains questionable, particularly given the anonymous nature of Reddit and the community where this story emerged.
