Hollywood actor George Clooney has responded to Hunter Biden‘s recent criticisms with measured restraint, choosing to take the high road rather than engage in a public feud with the former president’s son.
In an interview with YouTube creator Andrew Callaghan, Hunter Biden launched scathing attacks against Clooney, particularly regarding the actor’s New York Times op-ed that called for Democrats to replace Joe Biden as their 2024 presidential candidate. Hunter’s profanity-laden response included the question, “What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f***ing life to this country?”
When asked about Hunter’s reaction during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Clooney acknowledged he had seen the comments but declined to fan the flames. “I could spend a lot of time debunking many of the things he said, because many of the things he said were just outright lies,” Clooney stated, specifically noting that “Obama didn’t put me up to it. It wasn’t my fundraiser.”
However, the 64-year-old actor and activist chose diplomacy over confrontation. “The reality is I don’t think looking backwards like that is helpful to anyone, particularly to him. I don’t think it’s helpful for the Democratic party,” Clooney explained. “So I’m just gonna wish him well on his ongoing recovery, and I hope he does well and just leave it at that.”
Clooney admitted he has “many personal opinions” about the situation but emphasized that engaging in a public dispute would serve no constructive purpose. “I don’t find it to be helpful to have a public spat with him,” he said simply.
Looking back at his decision to pen the controversial op-ed, Clooney stood by his choice. “Yes, we had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary. Let’s battle test this quickly and get it up and going,” he explained.
He acknowledged that Vice President Kamala Harris faced a difficult challenge having to “run against her own record,” making it hard to present herself as a change candidate.
Despite the controversy and Hunter Biden’s accusations that Democrats betrayed his father, Clooney maintained his position was motivated by genuine concern for the party’s prospects. He expressed sadness at the election outcome but emphasized the importance of looking forward rather than dwelling on past conflicts.
