Influencer Opens Up On Trying To Get Liver King Off Of His Joe Rogan Fixation

On a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast, health influencer Brendan Ruh of Santa Cruz Medicinals opened up about his personal visit to Liver King‘s place and a candid dinner conversation that brought Joe Rogan into the picture.

The subject first came up when the hosts joked about Ruh’s pro-meat stance making him ‘Liver King 2.0.’ Ruh was quick to pump the brakes on that comparison.

“Liver King 2.0. Well, hey, I don’t want to shout out Liver King. That’s all,” he said with a laugh.

When asked whether Liver King was still active in the wellness space, Ruh confirmed a recent visit. “I visited him last year,” he said. “Yeah. And we did the barbarian workout at his lake compound. He’s sick, dude. Like, he’s out there. Yeah, I’ll say. But he’s cool. He’s a cool dude.”

Ruh then walked through the details of the barbarian workout itself, a grinding physical challenge that went viral during Liver King’s peak popularity. “It’s Liver King’s barbarian workout. Went super viral. A lot of creators like did it when he was like popping,” Ruh explained.

He continued: “And it’s, you take two 70 lb kettle bells. You have a backpack with 70 lb on you. You have shoulder straps attached to a sled with 120 lb on a minimum 35 lb sled. The ones at Liver King’s property are like heavy a*s Rogue sleds. You have ankle weights on, 20 lb of ankle weights. You can only walk when you’re holding the kettle bells and you go a mile.”

The story took an unexpected turn when Ruh described the dinner ritual at Liver King’s home that locked him into participating. It was there that the Joe Rogan connection surfaced.

He said: “We’re at Liver King’s house and we’re sitting down at dinner, and he says some stuff like when we’re like, we’re signing off for dinner. He has all these weird things. He goes, ‘Yeah, we were trying to get him off that Joe Rogan stuff.’ And I’m like, ‘Bro, Joe Rogan’s not your enemy.’ I’m like, ‘Bro, Crumble Cookie, Crumble Cookie is your enemy.’ He kind of got on that train a little bit. Like, Crumble Cookie is the enemy.”

For Ruh, the attempt to redirect Liver King’s focus away from Joe Rogan and toward what he saw as the real culprits in public health was a deliberate one. Rather than pointing fingers at a podcast host, Ruh wanted Liver King directing his energy at ultra-processed food culture and fast food chains.

As for the workout itself, it took Ruh and his crew two hours and 48 minutes to complete the one-mile course under all that weight. “It was one of the most challenging things I’ve done physically,” he said.
