MrBeast talks about being ‘politically neutral’ in 2025

Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, addressed his approach to politics and controversial topics during a New York Times conversation about his media empire and business strategy. The YouTube star, who commands over a billion followers across platforms, explained why he deliberately avoids political commentary despite having one of the largest audiences in the world.

When asked about staying away from controversial topics, Mr. Beast was direct about his reasoning. “My goal, one of the things I at least me personally I’m very passionate about, is being a good role model for a lot of the younger people that watch our videos. And it just those things just don’t seem as net positive,” he said. The content creator emphasized that engaging in political discourse would be counterproductive to his broader mission.

Mr. Beast elaborated on his strategic choice to remain politically neutral. “It’s because it’s like then all that would do is just instantly make, you know, have people hate me and like I don’t really care because I want to focus on these things that, you know, we can actually make a change on,” he explained.

Rather than weighing in on divisive issues, he directs his platform’s attention toward causes like combating child labor in the chocolate industry and building schools in underserved communities.

The YouTube creator sees his reach as better utilized for specific humanitarian efforts. “I’d rather use the spotlight for things like that as opposed to just saying the same old same,” he stated. This approach has allowed him to maintain a globally diverse audience, with 70 percent of his viewers located outside North America.

Mr. Beast’s philosophy reflects a calculated business decision as much as a personal value. By avoiding political statements, he preserves the universal appeal of his content, which focuses on intrinsic human experiences that transcend cultural and political boundaries.

“If you want to make a piece of content that someone in India and someone in America and someone in South America could enjoy, you know, obviously it probably can’t be culturally relevant or or things like that. It needs to be things that are more intrinsic to humans,” he explained.

When the moderator noted his careful language compared to other public figures, Mr. Beast acknowledged the observation without apology. His CEO Jeff Henbald reinforced this approach, emphasizing their mission to be the most impactful entertainment brand while making kindness viral.

The strategy appears effective, with Beast Industries currently valued at $5.2 billion and Feastables becoming the largest ethically sourced chocolate brand in the world.
