In a sit-down with Jack Neel, bodybuilding star Larry Wheels spoke at length about his wife Sheyla, covering everything from how they met to why he chose to marry without a prenup.
Speaking about how they first connected, Wheels said the relationship began online while he was in Dubai.
“In Dubai. In the DMs. It was an online relationship,” he said. “It was a brief exchange of messages and then like a couple days later, we met up for dinner.”
When asked about the biggest misconception people have about their marriage, Wheels pushed back against the criticism Sheyla often receives online.
“That she wears the pants and that she disrespects me and that she doesn’t do enough for me,” he said. “She’s contributed plenty to the marriage. And we are doing this broadcasting thing as a team.”
He went on to explain how much he values the relationship beyond the public perception.
“We’ve been together for 5 years now, and I do value her input and the peace of mind I get from being with her,” Wheels said. “And just being able to come home and talk to somebody about my life. She’s my best friend, you know, before she’s my wife.”
Wheels also opened up about Sheyla’s reaction when she first learned about his past struggles with spending and p*rnography.
“She was in surprise as the men she’s been with before me never had such a problem,” he said. “And at the same time she was understanding and empathetic and she gave me a chance. She is a big reason why I’m able to stay absent from it.”
Discussing accountability, Wheels explained why he allows Sheyla to monitor his finances. “Having her monitor that just creates a barrier so that if I ever get the bright idea to go and spend to chase that high, I know she’ll see it,” he said. “So I don’t do it.”
On the topic of PED use and whether it negatively affected the marriage, Wheels said he does not believe it caused damage outside of his previous p**nography issues.
“I don’t believe so because now that I’ve been abstinent from p**nography, it hasn’t had any impact outside of that for my marriage,” he said.
Asked about Sheyla’s best quality, Wheels pointed to the calm environment she brings into his life.
“My favorite quality would be how non-confrontational she is,” he said. “She never raises her voice. She’s not argumentative. There’s just peace at the house.”
Wheels also revealed he had no hesitation about marrying without a prenup, explaining that his trust in her character played a major role in the decision.
“100%,” he said when asked if he was comfortable skipping a prenup. “Because if she was a confrontational, argumentative person, I’d be fearful that one day she would drag my name through the mud, try and look me for every dollar I have. But she’s never shown any sign of anything like that.”
Speaking about whether marriage has ever felt restrictive, Wheels instead described it as a stabilizing force in his life. “I feel like I’ve never been stronger than with my wife,” he said. “And I also don’t have a wandering eye.”
He contrasted that with how he viewed relationships while single. “When I was single, I felt that drive to get in every woman’s pants that I found attractive,” Wheels said. “But now being happily married, I don’t have that distraction anymore.”
Wheels also confirmed that the couple hopes to have children in the future.
“I do want kids,” he said. “Yeah. I think she’d be a great mother. She’s very nurturing and patient.”
