Bill Maher Rips Modern Progressives: “You can’t just say sh*t! Math is racist. Queers for Palestine. Looting is cool…”

In a ‘New Rule’ segment on HBO’s Real Time, Bill Maher took aim at what he sees as the self-destructive excesses of modern progressivism, arguing that Democrats’ refusal to distance themselves from their “loony woke shit” is pushing conservatives toward authoritarianism.

Maher proposed a stark grand bargain for America: “The Left will seriously quash all their loony woke s*it, and the Right will stop the slide into autocracy.” He argued this represents “the only card left to play” in a deeply divided nation.

The comedian acknowledged that while he doesn’t believe most liberals are insane, “conservatives think the liberals are insane, and they’re not completely wrong.” His frustration peaked when discussing his inability to get Neil deGrasse Tyson, whom he called “a genius scientist,” to acknowledge the absurdity of claims by Scientific American and The Atlantic that “separating sports by sex doesn’t make sense.”

Maher then unleashed a rapid-fire list of progressive positions he believes are driving conservatives to extreme measures: gender being only a construct, sex being assigned at birth, transing kids by self-diagnosis with no age limit or parental notification, asylum covering any reason for coming to America, and the idea that natural immunity doesn’t count.

“When conservatives see it, they say, ‘I’m sorry, we’re just not going to go along with reinventing society, often pointlessly, even if we have to cancel democracy to do it,” Maher explained.

His most memorable moment came when he lambasted the Left’s rhetorical overreach: “You can’t just say s**t. Math is racist. Queers for Palestine. Looting is cool. Healthy at any weight? If the men’s football team played the women’s team, it would be a tie. You can’t just say s**t.”

Maher criticized progressives for demanding immediate acceptance of “radically new and often terrible ideas” without debate, labeling dissenters as “bad, stupid, and deplorable.” He warned that “smug self-righteousness in the defense of some of the dumbest ideas to ever come down the pike is not a formula that’s really working for you.”

However, Maher didn’t spare conservatives either, warning them that becoming “an authoritarian police state” won’t work when half the population is “seething and plotting against you.”
