During a recent appearance on the Katie Miller podcast, Elon Musk offered rare insight into his spiritual beliefs when asked directly about his views on God and creation.
When questioned about his current position on God, Musk provided a straightforward answer: “God is the creator.”
The exchange continued when Miller pressed further, asking, “You don’t believe in God though, do you?”
Musk’s response revealed a nuanced perspective: “Well, I believe this universe came for something. People have different labels.”
When asked who he looks up to most, Musk simply answered: “The creator.”
Rather than dismissing the concept entirely, Musk appears to accept that the universe originated from something beyond random chance, while remaining open to various interpretations of what that something might be.
In a previous interview with German leader Alice Weidel, Musk shared how he approaches questions about a higher power.
“I’m open to believing in things proportionate to the information that I receive,” Musk said when asked whether he believes in God. He also added: “I’m just open to the idea of God.”

Turning to the origins of existence, Musk suggested that the notion of God could be tied to the creation of the universe itself. “If you say, where did the universe come from? How is it created? I suppose there would be some entity that you could call God. I don’t know,” he said.
Last year, Musk referred to himself as a “cultural Christian” in a conversation with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson. Though he said he is not a “particularly religious person,” he expressed deep respect for the moral framework found in Christian teachings, especially the idea of “turning the other cheek.”

He argued that these values offer long-term benefits for humanity, explaining that Christian beliefs “result in the greatest happiness for humanity, considering not just the present, but all future humans… I’m actually a big believer in the principles of Christianity. I think they’re very good.”
