YouTube megastar MrBeast has long maintained a carefully crafted image of political neutrality, insisting his massive charitable operations require staying neutral. But recent tweets from content creator Rosanna Pansino paint a different picture, alleging the internet philanthropist attended a Trump rally and has hired Republican lobbyists to represent his business interests in North Carolina.
The accusations come as MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to remaining apolitical. In a video that has circulated online, he explains his reasoning: “Just don’t do anything political just because we do so much where we help people in need, and like it’s peaceful. And the second I start taking a side politically is instantly going to be half as effective because then, you know, the other half of the aisle is just not going to support it or help it.”
He continues, outlining the scope of his charitable work: “We feed hundreds of thousands of people a year and we just did a project we were getting two million people clean drinking water and with festivals we’re getting a lot of kids out of illegal child labor and so it’s just not worth it in my case like if we actually want to have maximum impact.”
However, Pansino’s claims suggest MrBeast’s political neutrality may be more strategic positioning than reality. She alleges that the YouTube star “doesn’t want people to know his politics because he will lose business,” citing his alleged attendance at a Trump rally as evidence of hidden partisan leanings.
Additionally, Pansino points to MrBeast’s recent hiring of four Republican lobbyists, including Tom Apodaca, a former Republican state senator from North Carolina.

According to reporting from The Guardian, Apodaca served as co-chair of the state senate’s committee on insurance before leaving office in 2015 to launch a lobbying practice. His firm has represented major clients including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Optima Health, and MrBeastYouTube LLC.
Social media user Paul Blest highlighted the extent of MrBeast’s lobbying presence, questioning in an April 2024 post: “Why does MrBeast have more registered lobbyists in North Carolina than Airbnb, Tesla, and Meta?”

The other lobbyists identified include Tate Apodaca, Tom’s son, who previously worked as a field representative for Rep. Mark Meadows and was recently appointed to the Western Carolina University Board of Trustees. Hannah Tedder Nye serves as general counsel for Vista Strategies and formerly worked as a legislative policy intern. Madison Shook Downing, a political consultant and fundraiser who has raised $100 million for various clients including state legislative leaders and federal officeholders, rounds out the public list. A fourth individual, Joanna Nichols, appears to work in government relations at Vista Strategies, though little public information about her is available.
Pansino also points to MrBeast’s personal and professional associations, noting his friendships with controversial figures like Logan Paul and Keemstar, and his business relationships with tech moguls Peter Thiel and Elon Musk.
She highlights that his company operates out of North Carolina, a state that ranks last nationally for workers’ rights, and mentions his acceptance of an undisclosed sum to develop a theme park in Saudi Arabia.
“MrBeast is NOT politically neutral or ‘Apolitical,'” Pansino declares. “Don’t be fooled by his constant PR BS.”
