Plastic surgeon and Botched star Dr. Terry Dubrow sat down with Trevor Wallace and Michael Blaustein on the Stiff Socks Podcast for a conversation about celebrity plastic surgery, and the subject of Jim Carrey‘s viral face transformation came up.
The discussion began after Dubrow explained what he sees as a major issue in modern cosmetic surgery for male celebrities. According to him, surgeons who achieve excellent results on female patients are often applying the same techniques to men, even though the facial structure and aesthetic goals are completely different.
“A woman, you can’t really over-feminize a woman,” Dubrow said. “But you take a guy and take all that skin away, which you do on females, you’re going to look completely different and weird instantly with a 20-minute operation. They’re doing female plastic surgery on these men, and changing their face forever.”
Dubrow then brought up two celebrities he claimed people had recently been asking him about the most.
“Everybody’s been asking me about two people recently,” he said. “And I’m not saying they’ve had plastic surgery, right? But everyone’s asking me about Jim Carrey and Bradley Cooper.”
Focusing specifically on Carrey’s appearance, Dubrow pointed to what he believed was noticeable work around the eyes.
“Look at the upper eyelid skin on Jim Carrey, right there,” he said.

One of the hosts pushed back during the discussion, suggesting that the viral photos circulating online had supposedly been debunked and were not actually Carrey. Dubrow immediately dismissed that claim.
“No, that was BS. That is him,” he said. “It is him.”
Returning to his point about cosmetic procedures on men, Dubrow used Carrey as an example of what he believes happens when upper eyelid surgery is performed using techniques better suited for women.
“Look at the upper lids,” Dubrow said while comparing images side by side. “You need upper lid skin.”
He then shifted attention to Cooper, arguing that the actor’s appearance had also become softer due to similar procedures. “He looks more feminine,” one of the hosts said.

“I mean, you don’t want to feminize,” Dubrow said.
From there, Dubrow expanded on his theory about which male celebrities can better tolerate procedures that create more traditionally feminine facial features.
“Certain guys who are feminine looking, who are pretty, can have plastic surgery and they look great,” he explained. “Rob Lowe, John Stamos, Brad Pitt. These are feminine looking guys. So you’re okay to do feminizing plastic surgery on them, because they’re pretty.”
Dubrow contrasted those examples with Cooper’s more traditionally masculine facial structure, arguing that men with sharper or stronger features are more likely to look dramatically altered when the same cosmetic approach is used.
